War of Legends is a multiplayer online strategy game published
by Jagex Ltd, the creators of RuneScape.
Resources
* Wood and Food are without a doubt the two most important resources. They are both easily updated and they are needed for everything you do in this game. Food is an important resource when it comes to creating an army, wood is primarily used in updates, buildings and also somewhat in training soldiers. This means that it is important for you to have Timber Mills and Croplands. With two crop lands both at level 6, you get around 2,000 food per hour. With 4 Timber mills at level 4, you can get around 2,500 for wood.
* Considering you cannot be attacked for 7 days after your registration, it is wise to gather as many resources and as many soldiers as you can. This is why it is very important to upgrade your resources. If you don't, you'll get minimal amounts per hour. You can be attacked in your own city after either a weeks play or gaining a level 10 Palace, whichever comes first.
* Upgrade your Palace to get more empty lots on your outskirts. Though be mindful of your resources. Palace upgrades are expensive and they often require you to have upgraded several other buildings in your city. However, updating your palace is useful and necessary, as you make up for the resource loss by being able to build more spots on your outskirts. Updating the Palace is a task you can complete, which gives you a handsome reward.
* Appoint a Legend to be your city governor as soon as possible. The higher the magic level of your Governor Legend, the higher it will boost your resource production. In times of peace, it'd be a good idea to put one of your stronger Legends as governor, since he will
provide you with the highest boost. If you're planning on warring and you need your strong Legends, you can always rotate between the lesser trained ones. Just make sure you always
have a Governor assigned to the palace, otherwise you lose out on useful resource speed
ncreases.
* Use the resource-acceleration skills, which can be found in your inventory under "Production" (after you've done certain easy tasks). These will boost your amounts/hour by 25% for a span of 24 hours or 7 days. Use these wisely to get yourself enough resources. When doing the easy tasks in the early stages of the game, you get at least 2 of each acceleration item. Use one of each to get you started and you can determine when to use the others. If you have JCredits, you can purchase a to boost your resource income by 25% for 7 days, while also increasing your defence by 10% for the same duration.
* Gold is a very important resource! With gold you can buy legends, troops, other resources, asperation levels and spells. Once you understand how the population system works, it becomes very easy to extract great deals of gold from your city! Play with your tax rates and your pacify/prayer a bit. It takes a long time for your loyalty to change and an even longer time for your population to change. (population is based on loyalty which is based on your tax rate.)
Fighting
* Do NOT attempt to attack Wildland 2 if you do not have 180+ soldiers assigned to your
legend. If you do, you will lose and all of your soldiers will be gone (there is no respawning of soldiers!).
* Send spies before you invade or attempt to occupy. You'd be surprised how many troops some of these wildlands have. Start level 3, you'll often be facing 500+ soldiers, and maybe reaching in the thousands as you attempt to invade level 5 and 6.
* Halberdiers are good soldiers, they will suffice until you're stronger. To get other types of soldiers, you need to update your garrison (which is expensive) and the cost for each new type of soldier only goes up as you go along. An army of 250 halberdiers will do a good job, even without the other types.
* Upgrade your Legend. Do this by going to the legends tab at the bottom of your screen. When they have enough EXP, you can update them to the next level. You can also use some of your Vouchers on Sacred Boons, which will grant your Legend 1,000 EXP (per Boon). When you update the legend, you can allocate points to his Strength, Mana and Courage. It's advisable to give your Legend enough Courage, which increases your armies' attack potential.
* Avoid Wildlands 3+ until you have a big enough army. I invite you all to send a few spies to any wildland of 3+, and you'll find out how they all have armies ranging in the thousands. At this time of writing, nobody has managed to beat one of those yet (unless one of the wildlands had an exceptionally low troop-count, which is sometimes possible. Again, send spies to find out exactly what you'll be facing or running away from).
* Reputation is given to the victorious, as well as some EXP. Try a few Wildland 0's and 1's to see how much you gather on average. Though be mindful of your troops, as winning a war almost always leaves you with high casualty counts. You'll lose many soldiers, and soldiers are pretty expensive.
Sub-cities
When you "occupy" a Flat Ground Wildland, and you are a Senior Prefect or higher, you can choose to build a sub-city on it. Also, Once you reach State minister or higher, you can create a second subcity. This will cost you 10,000 Gold, 10,000 Food, 10,000 Wood, 10,000 Copper, and 10,000 Stone for each subcity you make. The 100,000 in the game is a typo.
Most of the time it makes more sense to take a sub city off someone else as the production in that city will already be up and running.
Reputation
* Tasks give you reputation. You'll get varying amounts of reputation for the tasks involving the invasion of wildlands and Special Paradises. If you're keen on having a lot of reputation early on, you should train troops and hold off the building and updating of structures. Invade Wildland 0 and Wildland 1, providing you win you will get a handsome reward in the form of reputation and EXP for your participating Legend. Also pay attention to the tasks listed under "Legends", which involve sending troops to "explore" a Special Paradise, talk to a General and retreat back to the city (3 tasks = 3 rewards!). After you've completed these three tasks, you'll see the "Strange Vision" task appear in their stead. This tasks requires you to invade a Wildland 0 (again) until you get a Magic Urn (usually received on first victory), completing this task gives you a Tzonghi Token and a Helm Box (containing a level 2 Snake Helm for your Legend, which is pretty useful in the early stages of this game! It gives nice bonuses to your legend's strength and courage).
Constructing Buildings
* Construction Guide All about Building your City or Outskirts; Currently a Work-in-Progress.
* Build a University and train the resource skills to level 1. These will boost your resource-gathering by 2%. When you can, upgrade the University to level 2 and repeat the process of training the resource skills (which will then give you +4%). Furthermore, you complete a large number of tasks while training these skills in the university, making it a profitable and useful pastime. If you can, try to always have a skill in training. All of the level 1 skills cost you a good 500 Gold and roughly 70 of each resource. As you progress through these skills, you'll find yourself gathering a hefty bonus on the resources. It is unknown at this time, but you'll probably be able to get 20%-25% boosts through the University.
* Build villages to increase population, gold output and labour forces. It is advisable that you update the villages to level 3. It is currently suspected that the more villages you build, the more people will come living in your city, the more taxes you can collect and the faster your pile of money gets embellished. There also exists a task involving the population cap. While building these villages, you increase the maximum capacity of the city and you complete the tasks at the same time.
* Build a spy camp and send spies to wildlands. The spies will tell you how many troops are stationed in the wildland, which could save you from falling into a certain death-trap.
Updating Buildings
Updating your buildings doesn't seem very useful in the early stages of the game. For most buildings, updating them doesn't really change anything in the way they work or the services they provide. An example can be found in the Garrison, which only allows you access to new troops after getting to update 5. However, it is important for you to keep your buildings updated, if only to complete the tasks that involve them. At later stages, I'm sure that these buildings will provide benefits in their higher levels and you'll definitely get your money's worth then.
* Update your Palace to level 3 if you have plenty of resources. These updates take a long time to complete and they're relatively expensive. Updating your palace gives you one more empty space in your outskirts, which means you can add another resource.
Tasks
Tasks are without a doubt one of the most important things you should be doing when you first start playing this game. They give you reputation, resource, gold and your first few pieces of Legend equipment. Advancing through these tasks will give you lots of resources to work with and will establish your reputation for everyone else to see. You should always keep an eye on the task manager, to see whether you completed one and you can cash in a reward, or whether or you're close to getting something. When you become Minister, you'll get a daily reward/sum of money, which can be collected via the task manager. Listed below are the tasks you should pay close attention to when you're taking your first steps into this exciting new game:
* Resource tasks. This is pretty straightforward stuff. Do all the tasks that involve updating your resources. The rewards for these tasks are quite generous and they give you something to work towards. On a related note, you will also have to complete the University tasks that pertain to the resources. Do these as well, one at a time, as they cost next to nothing (considering your starting kit of resources), and yet give you handsome rewards for completing them.
* Perform the "Sacrifice" pacifier as soon as you can. Later on, after having done tasks and having built a lot of buildings, you'll be low on gold for a while. The Sacrifice Task gives you back the 5,000 Gold you put it anyway, as well as 30,000 Food!
* Do the Tasks. They give you very important and helpful rewards, such as Jagex Vouchers (free equivalent of JCredits), Treasure boxes (containing items), acceleration devices (for resource-gathering, primarily) and much more. They also give you reputation, which puts you on the rank list. The population tasks give you population.
Important Tip
* Do the Pacify tasks before you waste your gold. When completing the "Sacrifice" task, you are rewarded with 5,000 Gold and 30,000 Food. If you don't complete these tasks early on, you'll find it difficult to gather 5,000 Gold to complete it. If you're low on cash, you can use the 30,000 to make some more money (by selling some of the food in the market).
Other Tips
* It's a good idea to fill all unused spaces in your city with lvl 1 villages. This will increase your population a great deal and if you need the space for something else, just downgrade to 0 and build what you need.
* The logistics tasks have a very nice reward. On top of that once you complete the lvl 12 logistics tasks it opens tasks to make both 500 halberdiers and 500 swordsmen which is a very nice starting army. (It's also paid for and-then-some with the task rewards!)
